Radially generated surface. When using an end mill, a shoulder mill or a side and face mill cutter, a radial surface is generated. For a radially generated surface, it is the side of the tool that generates the profile. Each tooth produces a cusp (h). The width of the cusp is equal to feed per tooth, f z, and the depth of the cusp is determined ...

Surface Finish Calculator Solution Cusp Height gives an idea of Surface Finish and is most accurate when applied to a flat surface.By reducing the Pitch of Step Over distance, Cusp Height is reduced and a finer finish is produced. If a desired Cusp …
The Trades Math Calculator has been developed to quickly solve common machine shop and other trades trigonometry and math problems at a price every trades person can afford! You sometimes need to calculate the amount of stepover for a ball nose endmill to give a specifice surface finish. The ball nose cutter calculator makes this easy!
Milling operations remove material by feeding a workpiece into a rotating cutting tool with sharp teeth, such as an end mill or face mill. Calculations use the desired tool diameter, number of teeth, cutting speed, and cutting feed, which should be chosen based on the specific cutting conditions, including the workpiece material and tool material.
A CNC mill calculates speeds and feeds or SFM based on the information the user enters. The type of CNC mill, the type of machine controller, and the age of the machine will affect the amount of information that can be input directly into the machine. Historically G-code was created externally from a CNC machine and then loaded onto the machine.

When I want a nice finish and time isn't a problem, I usually go for .0002 scallop height. When finish isn't an issue I use distance and use a bull nosed end mill instead of a ball nosed end mill... then I typically use a distance from .005 to .01 step over. I hope this helps a little bit...
